Well, here we are at the end of August, 2013 (already!). On one hand, i clearly remember the hoopla and fear revolving around Y2K, on the other, it seems so far away. The new century/millennium doesn't seem so new anymore.
In a sense, being in the 2000s had given me a younger take on my life. Oh, there are a lot of things that concern me, not the least of which are the world, socio-political and financial situations, but some things are happening that give me some hope.
At my age, the state of my health (which is good, by the way) gives me pause, as i realize i'm much closer to the end than the beginning of my life, but i refuse to let it dominate my thinking. i take every day as a gift from God and go from there.
They say that, to avoid Alzheimer's, you should keep learning things and that's my plan. What with all the amazing things happening all around me all the time, there's plenty to occupy my mind ... my writing, my photography, my interests in just about anything and everything. When that slows down, my dear wife will keep me busy on whatever project needs doing (such is the fate of the DIYer!)
So, as we sail toward the end of the New Millennium's fourteenth year (in it's second decade!), instead of bemoaning the state of things around us, let's be thankful for what we are privileged to have, look forward with optimism and DO something! As we do, let's take a moment to pause, every now and then, to think about, and pray for, those who are fighting for us and for those who live under the evil thumb of oppression.
Let's echo that great line from the amazing series,
Battlestar Galactica ... "SO SAY WE ALL!"
