Wow, I've been so caught up with other aspects of my life, especially my writing, I've had to put my photographic passion on the back burner. My first, mystery novel, The Pastor and the Private Eye, won first prize in the 2014 Royal Palm Literary Association writng contest. Alas, my second novel didn't win a prize, but it made the list of finalists. As they say, "Wait 'till next year!" You can find the above novel on my website: www.thewordworkershop.com, along with all my other published work.

I've retired some of my nude work. The photos have had their time in the sun; now it's time for them to go back to sleep. Thank you all for your comments, favorites and general support. You're a great bunch and your comments have all been positive.

I'll be visiting my site (and others') from time to time. Until next time, take care and enjoy life ... it's too short not to!

Blessings.

Gosh, I find it hard to believe i posted my last journal last August! Where does the time go? In case you're interested, I had major eye surgery in January (vitrectomy and macular hole repair if you care to look it up), which put me off reading, etc. for two months. Then, when I could read again, I spent a LOT of time catching up on my editing and writing, on top of the usual whirl of everyday life.

Whoever thinks retirement is boring never thought to ask me about it! I honestly don't know how I got anything done when i had to work full time. Just driving a school bus as a temp dirver keeps me plenty busy.

Anywho, I'll be posting some new art soon. I'd like to express my thanks to all of you for watching and posting some of my work as favorites and apologize for some delayed responses. You guys rock!

Enjoy the summer and get out and do some of those things you've been meaning to do for fun. You don't have to wait until you're old to get cracking on that "bucket list." In fact, the earlier you start, the more you get to cross off. Life's too short to keep postponing it!

Ciao for now! :)

Well, here we are at the end of August, 2013 (already!). On one hand, i clearly remember the hoopla and fear revolving around Y2K, on the other, it seems so far away. The new century/millennium doesn't seem so new anymore.

In a sense, being in the 2000s had given me a younger take on my life. Oh, there are a lot of things that concern me, not the least of which are the world, socio-political and financial situations, but some things are happening that give me some hope.

At my age, the state of my health (which is good, by the way) gives me pause, as i realize i'm much closer to the end than the beginning of my life, but i refuse to let it dominate my thinking. i take every day as a gift from God and go from there.

They say that, to avoid Alzheimer's, you should keep learning things and that's my plan. What with all the amazing things happening all around me all the time, there's plenty to occupy my mind ... my writing, my photography, my interests in just about anything and everything. When that slows down, my dear wife will keep me busy on whatever project needs doing (such is the fate of the DIYer!)

So, as we sail toward the end of the New Millennium's fourteenth year (in it's second decade!), instead of bemoaning the state of things around us, let's be thankful for what we are privileged to have, look forward with optimism and DO something! As we do, let's take a moment to pause, every now and then, to think about, and pray for, those who are fighting for us and for those who live under the evil thumb of oppression.

Let's echo that great line from the amazing series, Battlestar Galactica ... "SO SAY WE ALL!"

Well, the hoopla is over (at least for a while--are you as exhausted as I am this past election season?), the votes have been cast and it's time to buckle down and see what's in store for this great country of ours.

Elections aside, I'm saddened by the devastation wrought on the Northeast by Hurricane Sandy, the fiscal unrest in Europe and here at home, the doings in the Middle East and Africa. I go to prayer often because of it.

Thank God for the arts! More than just frippery, I think we need art (the creative expression of the human mind) to give us balance, an anchor to stabilize us in times of tumult. I harbor no illusions that art is the be all, end all of our existence, but where would we be without it?

Happily, art isn't limited to "professionals." All of us have that creative germ in us; it just needs to be cultivated and released.

So, as we experience the waning months of 2012 and look forward to 2013, let's take a little time each day to celebrate in our hearts the God-given gift of art (and the creativity to create it).

And DeviantArt is a good place to start.

Well, another summer is soon to become history and we'll move into the bittersweet season of Autumn. I say bittersweet, for it's the harbinger of winter, when life in northern climes hunkers down until the Spring thaw brings new life again.

We'll be heading to our winter digs in sunny Florida to escape the cold, ice and snow (I've driven in and shoveled all the snow I care to for the rest of my life, thanks). We've grown fond of that big sandbar of a state, for its reliably warm weather all winter long and its diversity of plant and animal life.

Whatever the season, however, my trusty camera will be handy and ready to record whatever my "photographer's eye" sees. There's no "season" for the imagination! I'll also be doing a lot of writing, another way whereby I interpret the world around me.

As we in America look toward fall, Halloween, elections, Thanksgiving winter and the Holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year, etc.) and you in other countries look forward to your own cultural, yearly markers, may we all take time to give thanks for another year of health, the love of family and of our Creator; for to be alive is to have opportunity...opportunity for EVERYTHING in life.

For all of you who "surf" into my DeviantArt page, pick faves and leave comments, I would like to express my profound appreciation to you. That some of what you see here touches you in some way is a source of joy to me and a humbling experience too. We are all part of a "community" here and, even if we don't get to meet in person, we can always meet on Deviant Art.

Until my next journal post, hang in there and enjoy life as it comes!
